As the cold approaches your feathered friends will probably slow down on the egg production! Don’t panic, this is totally normal. Modern hybrid hens are less prone to the cooler conditions, so they will still lay a few eggs. As for the pure/show birds, egg production may totally stop.
If you have a small flock of hybrid hens that need to pay their way, you can try putting a small light inside the accommodation. This little extra light can help to stimulate the hens to keep producing reasonable numbers of eggs (2-4 eggs per week).
As for the re-homed battery hen, try to keep the housing free of cold draughts and heavy frosts. They are delicate birds and the cold temperatures can be a bit of a shock…
